Our Story
Maison Indē began with a simple wish: to carry the craft and warmth of India beyond its borders and give it a meaningful place in the modern world.
Each collection brings together India’s textile heritage and contemporary design. Behind every hand-printed motif is a maker whose knowledge has been developed over years and, in many cases, passed from one generation to the next. We believe these skills deserve more than admiration. The people who sustain them deserve to be seen, respected and recognised for the value of their work.
By sharing the process, history and human hands behind each piece, Maison Indē hopes to introduce Indian craftsmanship to a wider global audience and help keep age-old techniques part of a living, evolving culture rather than something remembered only from the past.
Rooted in founders childhood in India and shaped by the life they have built in the Netherlands, Maison Indē brings two homes together. It is their way of sharing India’s artistry, colour and hospitality with the world through pieces that feel distinctive, refined and made to be lived in.
When did the idea for Maison Indē first begin to take shape?
“Whenever I travelled home to India, I returned with block-printed dresses, bags, pashmina shawls and small handmade objects. Some were for me and others were gifts for friends in Europe.”
“What stayed with me was their curiosity. They wanted to know who had made each piece, how the pattern was printed and why no two looked exactly alike. Those conversations made me realise that people were not only drawn to the beauty of Indian craft; they wanted to understand its story. Maison Indē began from the wish to tell that story with the care and refinement it deserves.”
What does the name Maison Indē mean to you?
Maison Indē means ‘House of India’. I chose the word ‘house’ because I want the brand to feel like a house. To me, a house holds stories, memories, textiles, colour and hospitality.
“‘Maison’ reflects the life I have built in Europe, while ‘Indē’ keeps the brand connected to the place, people and traditions at its heart. Together, the name brings my two homes into one world.”
How do India and the Netherlands meet in each collection?
“India gives Maison Indē its craft, textile knowledge, colour and warmth. My life in the Netherlands shapes how I think about proportion, styling and the way a garment should fit naturally into a modern wardrobe.”
“I want to work respectfully with traditional techniques and place them within pieces that feel fresh, effortless and relevant today. Every collection is designed in Amsterdam and brought to life by skilled artisans in India. That exchange is the foundation of Maison Indē.”
What role do artisans play in the story of Maison Indē?
“The artisan is not an invisible part of our story. Their knowledge is part of the value of every piece we create. Many textile techniques have survived because families and craft communities continued to practise them over generations, even when handmade work was not always given the recognition it deserved.”
“My ambition is to help create a wider audience for this work, present it with pride on an international stage and build lasting opportunities around the skills that make it possible. Craft can only have a future when the people who carry it forward are respected, uplifted and valued.”
How do you want someone to feel when wearing Maison Indē?
“I want her to feel beautiful, special and completely herself. The pieces are expressive, but they are made to become part of real life: a summer afternoon, a holiday, lunch with friends or an ordinary day that deserves to feel a little more special.”
“I also hope she feels a quiet connection to the story behind what she is wearing: the hands that made it, the place it comes from and the care held within its details.”
What do you hope Maison Indē will become?
“I do not want Maison Indē to feel like only a clothing brand. I want it to become a small world of its own: a world of craft, textiles, stories and Indian warmth.”
“That feeling might be found in a cup of chai shared at a pop-up, the scent of ittar, a conversation about a print, or the pleasure of choosing something slowly and thoughtfully. Ultimately, Maison Indē is my way of bringing a piece of home to a wider world and helping the people and traditions behind it receive the recognition they deserve.”
